Summer Gathering - August 2003Location: Kimball's Farm - Westford, MADate: Saturday, August 9, 2003 Time: 2pm This gathering was arranged by Dean Smith Kimball Farms in Westford, MA As some of you may know, Kimball's farm in Westford, MA has been the previous home to the most successful MARX7.org gatherings ever. We hope to assemble an even bigger and better gathering this year, due mainly by the amount of growth of the club. With 102 [semi-]active members, this Kimball's gathering could set new records! Doesn't that make you want to be a part of it! As stated in the subject of this email, the event will be held on August 9th, 2003. Members are asked, but not required, to RSVP Dean Smith at dsmith@marx7.org by August 6th. This is just so we can estimate the turnout rate and make arrangements with Kimball's, if necessary. There is no charge for this event and all MARX7.org members and friends are welcome. For anyone who has ever attended a gathering at Kimball's farm, you know what to expect. Great ice cream, good company, and lots of beautiful cars. If you haven't attended one yet, be sure to clear your calendar for the 9th. With the recent release of the Mazda RX-8 (and some club members buying them) we would really ask that you come out to Kimball's, check out the cars, meet the other members, and have a wicked-wonderful time! Even if you've recently sold your RX-7 (I won't mention any names, OK Peter?) you are still welcome to join us. In fact, we'd be quite angry with you if you didn't show up, especially if that were the reason! :-) I look forward to seeing those I already know, and meeting those who are new the club. For more information, contact Dean Smith at dsmith@marx7.org. Thank you all for your time, and I look forward to seeing you all on the 9th! Even if you drive the TT. -James LaTour (on behalf of Dean Smith) I went up to Kimball farm this morning and met with Mr. Mike Kimball. I discussed the venue and the wants and needs of our club. He was very receptive. He has given us the use of the Kimball Farm event area. This is a area next to the lot that we usually use. For those that have been to Kimball Farm it is across from the water-park / mini golf area. This area is a grass lawn that is in "golf course" condition. There are a bunch of picnic tables and there are tents set up that are used for there Thursday night cruse nigh. It looks much better than the previous location that we have been using. Couple of rules / suggestions: Mr. Kimball was VERY adamant about NO BURNOUTS ON THE GRASS!!! The grass is cut short and is almost putting green quality. For those of us that have cats in place I don't see it being a problem. We may kill the grass from radiant heat but it is cut so short that it will not hit the bottom of the car. I would also suggest that if you must run your car hard to the event take a mile or so to cool it down before entering the area. I want to minimize heat damage to the lawn. The area we are in is very nice. The pristine condition of the grass will make for good photo ops with trees and a larger field in the background. Tonight I will put together a map of the area showing the "new" location and the access. Another cool thing is that there is a paved walk that runs along the edge of the lawn. Next to the walk is a stone wall and then the road. I was told by Mr. Kimball that there is allot of foot traffic so we will be "on display" and because of the location it will be more "MARX7 Exclusive". Again I would like to say that even if you don’t have a rotary powered vehicle to bring come on down. Participation is encouraged. Family, friends and kids are welcome. At this time I would like to only have Rotary cars in the field. If you come with a "non show car" then please park in the lot across from the ice cream stand. There is a path leading to the event area (approx. 200 feet away) I am proposing that we kick this thing of at 2:00 PM. I intend to get there at 1:30 or so. I will set up a sign so you all know where to enter but more on that later. Then we can just hang out do the photo op thing talk RX's and relax. There are picnic tables and/or bring a blanket and make an outing of it. Could be a great Family thing as well.
